It took the BOD too long to rid MMH of this mistake which was generated in the first place by the selection committee of the BOD.I suggest the BOD NOT pick the same people (JC & CO3) to have anything to do with the new selection process.Im sure the community will have to suffer somehow financially in the long run to pay off this bad decision–who knows what the pay out will be–Burgin got full salary for 5 years–but then Burgin ran a better ship than the current fiasco.

Personally, as a Mission employed physician, I am not so sure that it is not a BETTER place without saint buechler and saint shillinglaw.

    Excellent cartoon!

I agree with "Mission Impossible" and "JustThinking." I also understand "Health Care Is Messy" but tend to disagree. The reason the CEO pulls the salary is because he/she should be able to keep all parties focused on patient care while feeding the secondary appetites enough to prevent the power and/or money hungry parties from turning into ravening beasts. This fine line was walked with great skill by Bob Burgin. We can only hope that the future leader will have similar orientation and ability. Right now there are still way too many chiefs at MMH!

hospitals like mission are not a single unified organization, each department has its own mission and operates independently. I am a health care consultant and this is the same in nearly every facility i walk into. this makes it nearly impossible to improve overall initiatives, enact efficiencies or, in the case of mission, quell morale issues. silos exist because of the way these health systems consolidate services, continually expand their scope by absorbing more and more physician groups, nursing homes, home health, rehab, even other hospitals. unfortunately, this is ingrained in the culture of american health care and there is very little that will change this.

The sun would truly shine on Mission again, if Dr. Buechler would return, and Dr. Shillinglaw would stay. The dark cloud that hangs over Mission still , is the same cloud that rained down ruin on JDs career. It is a crime he still darkens our hallways. Why do you give this thug the liberty of finding a new job, when the countless people who left because of him, where never afforded that luxury? Perhaps our BOD can be " illuminated" on a couple of key issues. Get rid of the thugs and let the healing begin. Don’t give us lip service, give us transparency like you promised. It would also be enlightening if the BOD realized "collaborate not conquer" might serve all parties involved best. It is not your fiefdom, it is a community hospital here to serve the people of Asheville and the region. Please try to remember this while you pick up the pieces of the mess you created.

This is certainly best fo all concerned. We just need to stay diligent and press for the replacing of approximately half of the Vice Presidents. Before you think I am being inappropiate, we have over 20. That has to be one of the most insane and illogical facts surrounding this debachle.
