Here’s the press release from the lovely and loyal reader Brooke. This is one of the coolest creative ongoing endeavors in Ashvegas. The show is coming down at Harvest, but you can find the Newsworthy work on etsy here:

The Newsworthy Drawing Club has debuted their fourth annual hand-bound and illustrated book, Newsworthy. These limited edition books are composed of drawings loosely based upon factual news reports gathered from various sources throughout the year of 2011.

A show comprised of the original drawings and hardcover & paperback books is on display at Harvest Records until February 1st, 2012. The Newsworthy book is a retrospective of the most macabre, strange and beautiful events from around the world that occurred during the previous year.

The Newsworthy Drawing club is a collective of artists based in Asheville, holding weekly meetings in which unusual current events are exchanged and collaboratively illustrated. Self-enforced guidelines strictly prohibit the use of photographs or images from the original sources as reference.

The book project, which is now in its fourth year, is the brainchild of local artist, Julie Armbruster and dressmaker/artist R. Brooke Priddy. Newsworthy Drawing Club was formerly known as Segment Sixteen Drawing Club and has been working together since 2005. All sales go towards the operating expenses of the club. Each sale keeps us drawing throughout the year! The limited edition hardcover books are $65.00 Paperbacks are $12.00 Original drawings mounted on panel are $65.00 Giclee Prints (unmounted) $35, (mounted) $45 Items can be viewed and purchased at Harvest Records through January, and purchased online at our Etsy shop: www.etsy.com/shop/ DrawingClub Harvest Records is located at 415 Haywood Road Asheville, NC 28806.
