Here’s the story from the Asheville Citizen-Times:

BLACK MOUNTAIN – It was a tough winter around the mountains, and the pain was extreme at the White Horse Black Mountain music venue in downtown Black Mountain.

The cozy music hall, which opened 18 months ago, was reeling after winter storms canceled several big shows. Owners Bob Hinkle and his wife Kim Hughes strongly considered shutting down. “I didn’t know if we were crazy to go on,” said Hinkle. “It was a real question mark.”

Then, local musicians stepped forward and announced a benefit for the venue that had previously booked many of them.

Pony Up for White Horse, Saturday and Sunday, will feature such stars Grammy-winner David Holt, singer-songwriter Malcolm Holcombe, Chris Rosser, Whitewater Bluegrass Company, Peggy Ratusz, Ashley Chambliss and more.

White Horse “has really become an important part of the Black Mountain community,’’ said Don Talley, editor of the Black Mountain Music Scene electronic newsletter, who organized the event.

My husband and I got married there back in September… Thank you to all who stepped up to help Bob & Kim; they are amazing.

    Save the White Horse!

I’ve met White Horse owners Bob and Kim and found them to be lovely, friendly, community-minded people. I can’t wait to support their event and their venue’s financial recovery.

    From Don Talley on Facebook:

"Wow….it never ceases to amaze me how gracious musicians and music lovers are when it comes to lending a hand to a worthy cause. White Horse Black Mountain has donated their facility to many benefits for others including WNCW, Haiti, musicians with medical bills, montessori schools, and more. Now as they face their own time of need the good people of Western NC are responding."

When the White Horse needed money and events, Bob and Kim chose to put on a SECOND Help Haiti Heal event. They’re raised thousands for others in need — and they run a great community venue! It’s time to give back.

I am pulling for you, Bob and Kim!
