jude_law_2014DigitalSpy has the news:

Jude Law has replaced Michael Fassbender in new biopic Genius.

Adapted from A Scott Berg’s biography Max Perkins: Editor of Genius, the new movie tells the story of Perkins (Firth), a renowned book editor at Scribner who worked with literary giants F. Scott Fitzgerald, Ernest Hemingway and Thomas Wolfe.

Genius will focus on the relationship between Perkins and Wolfe and their falling out.

Laura Hope-Gill, a poet, writer and organizer of Asheville’s Wordfest, reports that some of the movie’s makers will be visiting Asheville next month. Can’t wait to hear if some of the movie will be shot here in Asheville.

TheWrap.com reports that filming will begin in October in the U.S. and the U.K. TVMuse.com says award-winning screen writer John Logan, of Skyfall, Sweeney Todd and Gladiator, is the screenwriter.

I haven’t heard much yet about the potential impact of this movie on Asheville and Western North Carolina. With such a top-notch cast (Michael Grandage is directing; this is his debut), it seems likely that the movie will shine a bright light on all things Wolfe. A few years ago, the filming of The Hunger Games in Western North Carolina brought our lush mountains back to the minds of movie location scouts in a big way (as well as a big business incentives for movie-makers), but a movie about Wolfe the writer will highlight Asheville in a cultural way. Should be fun to watch.

Interesting . . . Law’s already three years older than Wolfe was when he passed away, but he looks a *lot* younger. Later pictures of Wolfe show him as kind of dissolute, beefy and thick-necked, not words you’d use to describe Law.

Here’s an idea – replace Jude Law with Pat McCrory, and then move Wolfe’s birthplace from Asheville to Raleigh. I tell ya, this script will sell itself!!

Yes, let’s make this yet another place to discuss politics. Excellent idea.

          Just a passing joke.

But now you mention it, the article does refer to “incentives” for filmmaking in North Carolina, and Gov. McCrory is playing coy about whether or how he will renew them. They are scheduled to sunset next year, and some GOPers are talking about saying good riddance, despite the proven return.

He’s not tall enough! I’ve always thought Vince Vaughn resembled Thomas Wolfe.
