Press release:

The Music leadership of the Land of the Sky Chorus is offering 6 weeks of free vocal lessons to local men. The program, called “Ready, Set Sing” will be held at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 51 Wilburn Place, West Asheville, at 7:30PM, each Tuesday from Aug. 17 to Sept. 21, 2010.

Instruction will include breathing, resonance, vowles, rhythm, dynamics, and an introduction to the barbershop style of harmony, a true American art form.

These lessons are about a lot more than dry basics. Did you know that each song has one or more “strongest elements” that are keys to its artistic impact in performance? The possibilities include lyric message, melodic line, rhythm, tempo, comedy, harmony, visual entertainment and nostalgia—all of which can be created or enhanced by the voice.
