Kwame Kilpatrick, the disgraced former mayor of Detroit, was released from jail this week. His legal troubles began last year when text messages revealed that he and his former chief of staff, Christine Beatty, lied in court during a police whistle-blower lawsuit to hide their affair and the firings of police officers, the Detroit News reported.

Kilpatrick is on his way to Texas for a job interview, according to the newspaper.

Kilpatrick was Asheville’s speaker last year for its annual Martin Luther King Prayer Breakfast, just before the scandal about him broke big in the news. News reports at the time said Kilpatrick stayed at the Grove Park Inn and had a little massage party with someone other than his wife.
