The Washington Post today says newly released FBI documents detail allegations that the Koran was desecrated in a number of ways at Guatanamo Bay. Meanwhile, the Rutherford County pastor who posted a sign outside his church stating “The Koran needs to be flushed!” is continuing to feel the heat over his overheated statement.

Here’s the Post story.

“Nearly a dozen detainees at the Guantanamo Bay military prison in Cuba told FBI interrogators that guards had mistreated copies of the Koran, including one who said in 2002 that guards “flushed a Koran in the toilet,” according to new FBI documents released today.

“The summaries of FBI interviews, obtained by the American Civil Liberties Union as part of an ongoing lawsuit, also include allegations that the Koran was kicked, thrown to the floor and withheld as punishment and that guards mocked Muslim prisoners during prayers.”

Western North Carolina’s Forest City preacher could well have worked at Gitmo, if the aforementioned allegations are true. The Rev. Creighton Lovelace showed a local TV reporter his copy of the Koran, a crinkled and wrinkled paperback, and proudly stated that he had thrown it on the floor and stomped on it because it wasn’t his god’s word.

Here’s the latest story from the local Forest City newspaper.

Lovelace is set to appear on Good Morning America Wednesday morning as this story’s momentum continues. (Read my earlier posts about this controversy for more.)
