Here’s the notice from loyal reader Ami. You can join the YWCA for free in January. That’s a $55 savings for a single person, a $75 savings for a family. Do it. The monthly rate for a single person is $38, and $55 for a family. That’s a small price to pay for your priceless personal health.

Start the New Year off Right!

Club W: The YWCA Health & Fitness Center, is offering free enrollment to people who sign up during January. New sign-ups will also be entered into a drawing for great prizes including personal training and massage.

Club W offers a fitness center with free weights and machines; classes including yoga, pump, tai chi and dance aerobics; a brand new cycling studio; and water aerobics, open and lap swim in our solar-heated, indoor pool. Club W fees help to support the YWCA’s important community programs dedicated to eliminating racism and empowering women.

Be a warrior for change. You can fight the battle of the bulge at any gym, but at Club W you’re also fighting for your community.

Hopefully specials at the YWCA, Rush, Body shop, and the opening of the Woodfin YMCA this Spring will help ease the treadmill rage. It does get ugly in January at the downtown YMCA.

Ooooops! I should have read the fine-print and noticed it’s the yWca and not the yMca. My bad. I apologize. I take it back. Mea culpa. Sorry Ash & Ami. I hope I’m forgiven. I love the Ashvegas website. Is that enough?

PS: But seriously, my point still is that these offers really change the already crowded fitness landscape for a lot of people who are already trying to stay fit. We also already paid our enrollment fee. Happy New Year! OK, I’m done.

I’m sorry, but this really pisses me off! As a YMCA member for ten-years, every time this offer is made, guess what happens at the "Y". You got it. People come out of the woodwork to save a few bucks and there is chaos. Try getting a treadmill, cross-trainer, pool lane, etc. Seems to me there should be some sort of cap on YMCA membership, so that people who already pay to go there can actually go there and have a decent work-out experience. Thanks for spreading the word, Ash! NOT!!!
