Press release below. John Oates has a little history with Asheville. Oates visited last year with his son, who was scoping out potential colleges, and he stopped by to check out Echo Mountain Studios.
John Oates has partnered with online platform Creative Allies to launch a contest that allows fans the chance to design the cover of his upcoming album, “Good Road To Follow,” which will feature a three disc set of genre specific EPs titled Route 1, Route 2, and Route 3. Artists have the opportunity to submit designs online and the public can vote at http://www.creativeallies.com/contests/917-design-an-album-cover-for-john-oates. John Oates will personally select his favorite design. Oates notes, “I’m so excited to see what people come up with. This is a unique way to get the fans involved in the process and I think it will be beneficial for the both of us.” The winner will receive $500, a John Oates prize package and an autographed copy of the CD with his or her design on the cover.
“Good Road To Follow” is set to release March 18th with the lead single “Stone Cold Love” written and produced with OneRepublic’s hitmaker Ryan Tedder. Other collaborations on the album range from the pop band Hot Chelle Rae, to country icon Vince Gill, and bluegrass legend Jerry Douglas.
Oates suggests that the cover should be organic in style and “reflect the overall vibe of a musical journey on a road that never ends.” Designers are invited to submit their artwork through Oates’ page on Creative Allies. Submissions for the contest will be open through Friday, January 31st.
i cant go for that
In the end, it is up to artists to value their own work and not let their egos get in the way by agreeing to do work for next to nothing. According to getnetworth.com, John Oates is worth $30 million. He didn’t make it by paying for what he could get for free. Some graphic artist in Bangalore will be happy to be awarded that $500.
wow, a whole $500?!?
that is insulting just to read…shame, shame, shame.
Who would want to be associated with that cheeseball anyways?
Shame on Johan Oates, Anyone with $ using the bullshit website Creative Allies to take advantage of artists should be shunned. Artists have bills to pay just like everyone else. Does your electrician or doctor enter contests? No they don’t. They get hired. Creative Allies is a way for these artists and labels to get free work out of 100s of desperate artists. Then they leave the one chosen artist with no rights. Its a way for them to get free work. Anyone supporting this site needs to rethink what they are doing. It makes a joke out of a great profession, the graphic artist and illustrator. Shame on Creative allies and shame on John Oats.
Yeah I’ve had it with Durell Hall & Johan Oates
