We ran across TalkAsheville the other day and thought it was worth a mention. It’s just getting started, but looks like it might have potential:

Talk Asheville will be a powerful networking site much like this one and others but its primary focus is to bring local folks, admirers of the area, businesses, groups, clubs and organizations from all over Western North Carolina together to help build unity, create relationships for lasting friendships, networking partners, promote ideas, beliefs, philosophies and help our economy through promoting tourism and local businesses.
Some of the Things you can do on TalkAsheville are:
• Build your own network of friends and contacts who share your interests
• Use our built-in communication services to communicate with everyone
• Create classified ads and get responses
• Create your own event or attend other members’ events
• Create clubs and invite people, who share your interests or join an existing club
• Discuss current events, ideas, interests and philosophies on the TalkAsheville Forums
• And a lot more!

Thank you Chris, but the comparison of poor grammar to rape and murder is even a bit too far fetched for me, but the point well taken.

There are 2 types of people in this world. Those who act and those who sit back and complain without action. Each individual has the right to choose what side of the fence they wish to reside.

Bill is correct there was a glaring grammatical error on our homepage, which we caught shortly (about 10 minutes) after it was published. Bill just happened to be the lucky individual who landed on our site and had the keen eye to catch this at that precise moment.

However, Bill do not let that 15 minute error be any indication to the worth of me as an individual or the site that I work a "real job" to fund for the people of Western North Carolina while never asking for anything in return.

We obviously fixed our error in a timely manner, but it was unfortunately caught by someone who has chose to be a complainer and not one of action. A man of action (or woman) would politely email a website to point out a human mistake, others will just simply resort to negative comments and questioning ones worth.

The question in life is what person do you want to be? It reminds me of one of these 60-minutes or Nightline shows recently where they wanted to see what people would do if they were to see a man beating his girlfriend or bullies in the playground. Most people just walked by whispering "did you see that".

That is what we have become as a society, the action of getting involved is just too much to handle so we just whisper and complain. Perhaps TalkAsheville can help a few of those people who just feel too much pressure to make a difference.

Thank you Ashevegas for the props!

    I know.
    It was harsh.
But I am an old editor, and I see things like that more than most people.
    It is on their homepage.

not sure i can not find that error anywhere. maybe you should contact them and let them know about this. if i could find it i would let them know, i fully realize that people make mistakes and i would hate for anyone to think that i held no value because i made a mistake. so no, your not nit picking your just self righteous in not willing to overlook a simple mistake. it is not as if they killed and raped 🙂

Not trying to be a nit picker or anything, but the very obvious big misused word on their homepage… (residence vice residents) kind of turns me off to any value this site may have.

    Or is that just me?
