We didn’t pay too close attention, so all we caught were some of the following from WLOSers:

-There’s going to be a big “town hall” meeting on Oct. 1 at West Henderson High School after some sort of incident there. We missed “the incident.”

-State water inspectors were busy Wednesday. First, they were at the old CTS manufacturing site collecting new samples of groundwater after residents and others had complained that not enough has been done to clean up the site. Then the water inspectors were called over to a creek down by Depot Street that locals call “Nasty Creek.” There, they found a mild acid solution was mixing into the water, killing fish and creating suds. They were trying to find the source of the contamination.

-An Asheville Police Department officer taught local high school kids about forensics, ala “CSI.”

-And some propane tanks blew up at a Wal-Mart Supercenter out in Sylva. Four people were injured.

From what I recall from their story, the "incident" had to do with a homecoming float (or some such item) designed by one of the classes. It featured a headless opponent (head removed by giant talon). The figure had brown gloves, and was perceived by some to be African American. The people involved deny it had racial overtones (including the class sponsor). The principal feels that there must be deeper issues at play here, since folks feel that way about it, hence the meeting to discuss it.
