From goupstate.com:

The Hooters on Spartanburg’s west side is closed, but the company that operated the restaurant hopes to reopen the location under a new concept in a couple of weeks.

Brian Greene, regional manager, said Owl’s Eyes Inc. operated nine Hooters locations in five states — including the Spartanburg restaurant and Asheville and Statesville locations in North Carolina. Over the years, Owl’s Eyes acquired restaurants that owed money to Atlanta-based Hooters of America Inc. When Owl’s Eyes took over those properties, it assumed that debt, Greene said.

The franchise operator agreed to repay the debt to Hooters of America over time. But the national restaurant chain was sold in January, and the new owners of Hooters of America demanded all of the owed money at one time, Greene said. Owl’s Eyes did not have that money and has now closed all nine of its restaurants, he said.

Business-wise I understand why it went, poor location, food was never great, even for a hooters, and the waitresses were not very friendly.

Love it or hate it, it's sad to see any jobs go. It must be nice to be culturally elite and can look down your nose at people who loose their jobs.

This is a major travesty for all fans of fine dining and cultured wait staff in Asheville.
