Heatwave hype
Julie Blunder, inexplicably wearing a denim jacket outside while presenting her infotainment report from Lake Julian, told us that it’s hot outside. The “blast of heat” was “almost” 90 degrees, Blunder said. That meant it was 89 degrees on Monday, and we’re not sure that really qualifies as “hot.” It’s summer, after all. Just because it is hot outside doesn’t mean that you can’t keep cool indoors. What we all need is an air conditioning system in our homes! At least this way, you’ll have the option of staying cool after a day in the sun. To find out more information, check out sites like https://escondidohvacpros.com, as knowing how to cope in these conditions is crucial.
Julie told us to stay in the shade and drink lots of water, or better yet, stay inside. She interviewed some kids going to see a movie, who described a theater – “It’s, like, dark and cold inside.” Who knew, Julie? She also interviewed a worker at Skyland Cleaners, who works with 375-degree irons. He was hot.
After the heatwave hype, Julie brought us back to reality. She admitted that the mountains will be cooler than other spots around North Carolina. And Mike “Cuervo” Cuevas chimed in to explain it: “Temperatures tend to be cooler the higher up you go,” he said. No shit?
Cuevas said last week, the daily average temp was 85. This week, the daily average temp will be 87. So that qualifies as a heatwave?
Man charged with sex crime
A Hendersonville man has been accused of a sex crime – he used a mirror to spiy on a 10-year-old in a Home Depot restroom, according to WLOSers.
Funeral for teen
The funeral for Terry Evans, the 17-year-old shot and killed by Buncombe County Sheriff’s Department deputies last week, will be held Tuesday. Visitation was Monday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home, WLOSers said.
Woodfin scam
Michelle Boudin brought us some sort of update on an alleged scam being run out of Woodfin, but once again her infotainment segment made no sense.
The “news” apparently was that Woodfin police liked some videotape that Boudin showed ’em. The scam is this – the guys ask people for money for time shares, then don’t secure the actual time share. Boudin said people in 33 states and Canada have been scammed.
More condos
An old school in Flat Rock will be turned into condos, WLOSers said. Charleston Garden at Flat Rock will offer condos starting at $349,000. The developer wants to bring a little bit of Charleston to Flat Rock.
Water agreement argument continues
Cherub Charu told us that city and county officials are still arguing over water rates and the water system. The politicians met Monday, but Charu said they just ended up bickering over the meeting. County commissioners Nathan Ramsey and David Gantt were the only two commissioners to show, while the city apparently had a full contingent. Gantt said the city didn’t give them enough notice.
In other news…
The new clubhouse at Aston Park was dedicated on Monday. The Asheville Open tennis tournament also started there… City crews are going to hose down Pritchard Park, the place where the homeless bums like to piss and shit in the park corners… Blue Ridge Outdoors magazine named Ashvegas a “green city”… And junk faxes may stop if state lawmakers pass a bill to that effect…
amen, DanDan.
and Kathryn, i hear ya. i used to live in God-forsaken-Florence, SC, of all places. talk about f’n hot. geesh. i heart the mountains, too!
Gotta say, as a native of Eastern NC, where the index jumps to 115 in July, I seriously heart the mountains.
My hey Mike questions is "Mike you know why it’s so hot?" "Cause it’s the middle of F’n July".
