-The owners Belly Up Truck food truck have announced that they’re planning to open a brick-and-mortar restaurant at 507 Haywood Road in West Asheville. It will be called Haywood Common.

-Sky Zone trampoline park is finally open in south Asheville. Finally.

-John Fleer is a finalist for a James Beard Award this year, in the Best Chef Southeast category. Fleer is the chef/owner of Rhubarb in downtown Asheville.

Elite Airways last week announced new nonstop flights between Asheville Regional Airport and Vero Beach Regional Airport (VRB) in Florida. The new flights, scheduled on Thursdays and Sundays between AVL and VRB, will begin on May 25, according to a press release.

-Check out CoThinkk, a new “giving circle that brings together community leaders who care about the economic and social well-being of communities of color in Asheville and Western North Carolina.”

-Brevard City Council recently approved short-term rentals in parts of town.

-The Deli LlaMMMa food truck has launched a crowd-funding campaign for truck repairs.

-Florida-based Cigar City Brewing is expanding distribution to North Carolina.

-Carl Mumpower has been chosen as the new chairman of the Buncombe County Republican Party. Mumpower is a former Asheville City Council member. The local GOP also recently elected Bill Lack as vice-chair, Lisa Baldwin as second vice-chair, Loretta Reynolds as Secretary, Kathy Penland as treasurer and at-large members Andrew Brooks, Timothy Elkin, Jerry Green, Betty Hudson and Jerry Rice.

-Asheville Outlets has announced a new, free shuttle bus service available for area Asheville hotels, convention locations and local attractions, according to a press release. The bus will run daily on a call-for-service basis from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. with final drop offs at 6:30 p.m. Additionally, the bus can be reserved for private group transportation to and from the outlet center. The service will begin on Saturday, April 1, according to the release. To book the Asheville Outlets Shuttle Bus, call 828-620-1803.

-The Collider, a downtown innovation center focused on climate solutions, is now host to “Struck by Nature,” a traveling art exhibition from environmental artist Marjorie Pierson, according to a press release. “Struck by Nature” features visual art made in American landscapes directly impacted by climate change. The public can view the exhibition and meet the artist at a free reception on April 7, 5:00 – 6:30 p.m., where Pierson will present a talk on the use of visual art to engage audiences on climate change issues. Attendees can also purchase copies of Pierson’s book at the event, Struck by Nature: Photographs from Bald Head Island, featuring unique barrier island landscapes in North Carolina.

The event coincides with the first art walk of 2017 in downtown Asheville. The Collider is located at 1 Haywood St., on the top floor of the Wells Fargo building, across from Pritchard Park.

    The BCGOP has fallen on hard times recently, in part due to their ‘Democrats are evil’, ‘Democrats are the enemy’ rhetoric, which has not served them well in a left-leaning county. Dr. Mumpower is a smart guy. Will he turn that around? This could be a troubling development…
