It’s the weekend before Halloween! Since the spookiest day of the year falls on a Tuesday, people are celebrating early. But not to fear! There’s plenty to do on the day of as well. Here’s a sampling of some of the things happening in town (plus a few non-scary events for the faint of heart). And check out our video running down Asheville’s ghosts you need to know.
Friday
Head to the Mothlight for HEX Asheville, which benefits CIMA (Compañeros Inmigrantes de las Montañas en Acción). Costumes encouraged. Photo booth, tarot readings, DJ sets from DJ Honey, DJ Heavy Charms, and DJ Lil Meow Meow, live hip-hop set from A MAC. 8 pm.
Friday and Saturday
Relive your scariest high school moments at Haunted High @ Asheville High School. It’s a fundraiser for the Asheville High School Band Association that takes places in the halls and classrooms of the historic Asheville High School building. This year, the event nods in a big way to It. Tickets are $10 and available online or at the door. 10/27 10-midnight & 10/28 8-midnight.
Saturday
Start off your Saturday by fleeing your demons at the Pumpkin Peddler 2017, a costumed bike ride from Asheville on Bikes, presented by New Belgium. 3-6 pm
Buxton Hall hosts 103.3 Asheville FM’s Fall Fund Drive kickoff party in this perennial favorite. Come costumed and dance the night away starting at 10 pm, all while supporting Asheville FM.
Live the BEAT LIFE at the One Stop at Asheville Music Hall, featuring Xero God, Oak City Slums, Koresma, Cpt. Hyperdrive, and more. Starts at 10 pm.
Sunday
Spend an Evening with Gladys Knight and Friends, happening at Thomas Wolfe Auditorium. This benefit for the RHS Foundation will help with the construction of a community center in Canton, NC. Devil’s Night, a demonic beer release extravaganza, will take place on the South Slope, when all nine breweries will premiere their 2017 Devil’s Night brew. Starts at 4 pm.
Tuesday: Halloween!
We recommend you pair an evening out at Vermont Ave. in West Asheville, where you can strut your stuff in your costume and see droves of trick-or-treaters, with a later-night stop by the Brew Pump’s annual Halloween Hullabaloo Dance Party, which will feature DJs spinning tunes, food trucks, drink specials, and more at everyone’s favorite gas station bar.
