People have been buying up guns and magazines at stores and pawn shops around Asheville. I’ve had folks tell me store shelves are pretty much empty. Semi-automatic rifles are particularly popular.

The frenzy follows last week’s horrific shootings in Newtown, Conn., and a move by President Obama asking for new gun control regulations.

The gun industry is profiting big-time by all the concern over new regulations. Some folks are calling it Obama’s gun stimulus. From Huffington Post:

Fearing the new laws, customers have put such a dent in dealers’ supplies in the wake of the Newtown school shooting that many firearms enthusiasts have taken to Twitter, often calling the frenzy “the Obama gun stimulus,” as first reported by Twitchy. Others have even hailed the President as the “2012 gun industry man of the year.”

Indeed, Walmart has reportedly sold out of semi-automatic weapons in five states. Even so, this isn’t the first time Obama has been ironically hailed as hero by supporters of the gun industry. Back in February, gun retailer Ammo.net called Obama the “greatest gun salesman in America” due to his administration’s “perceived hostility towards gun owners.”

From newsmax:

The hot-selling model is the AR-15 – the same firearm used by gunman Adam Lanza — along with the powerful .223 ammunition it uses.

More than three million Americans own an AR-15, which gun store owners say buyers like because “it’s the civilian version of the fearsome M-16 used by the U.S. military,’’ CBS News reports.

Firearms enthusiasts will enjoy articles over at Outdoor Empire, ranging from AR-15 case reviews to a night sight installation guide.

If the press wouldn’t make the messed up people who do these kinds of horrible acts in to “infamous” people…who knows how it will be because guns have been around a long time but people who shoot schools up have only started in past decade an a half

I think I saw Jesus at Leicester Pawn, he was looking at rifles, but I didn’t want to intrude.

The price has almost doubled since the shootings.

It is a shame that the gun sellers are profitting from this.
