Nine local restaurants have spent the last month celebrating the Sochi Games by plotting a victory to take the gold medal in the Food Service Winter Games Sunday at Pisgah Brewing. The inaugural Food Service Summer Games, held in August 2012, was a huge success with team Hickory Tavern taking home the gold.

Four-member teams from The Bier Garden, reigning gold medal holder Hickory Tavern, The Social, The Local Taco, Black Mountain Ale House, Mellow Mushroom, Moe’s BBQ, Favilla’s Pizza and the Ice Bar will be competing in Olympic inspired games including Pisgah Can Curling, Bobsleigh Spillage, Toboggan Race, and Wii Ice Dancing.

The Food Service Winter Games, presented by 105.9 the Mountain (WTMT), kicks off at 3pm at Pisgah Brewing in Black Mountain. Teams will score points in each event based on speed and skill. Judges will award additional bonus points to the team with the “Most Spirit”. Not only will the winning team go home with serious bragging rights, but each member will also receive hundreds of dollars in prizes. Air talent from 105.9 the Mountain will be judging the games.

Spectators will have a chance to impact the future of the hopeful victors as well. Upon arrival, spectators will get to vote for their favorite team and the team who collects the most votes will get additional bonus points added to the final score. That vote will also enter the spectator into the running for one of the $100 gift certificates provided by the competing restaurants.

The event is free to the public with a selection of Pisgah Brewing beers available for purchase. For more details on the Food Service Winter Games, visit www.1059theMountain.com.
