Career Advancement: Wilderness EMT Intensive Course

Western North Carolina is home to an untold number of outdoor professionals, and top-rated college-level outdoor leadership programs. It’s also home to one of the region’s fastest-growing wilderness medicine centers: SOLO Southeast at NOC. From September 27 to October 22, SOLO Southeast holds its Wilderness EMT Intensive, the highest level of wilderness medicine certification available. Students spend time in the classroom and in the field, in addition to attending talks with industry professionals. Last winter’s WEMT class boasted a 100% pass rate. Earn industry-wide professional certification and a career upgrade at NOC.

Outwit, Outplay, Outlast: NOC’s Most Popular New Program

Following four sold-out weekends, NOC is offering another chance to participate in its most popular course this year, Wilderness Survival Skills. Join survival experts Jono Bryant and Jason Drevnak in the wilds of Nantahala National Forest, mastering the basics of survival: food, water, shelter, fire and signaling. This entry-level course prepares students for special fall workshops and the chance to progress to a 2011 survival expedition to Belize.

Digital Photography Weekend, Learn In Time for Leaf Season

Photographer Richard Bernabe returns to NOC for a weekend clinic on Digital Nature Photography, September 17–19. Shooters spend time in landscapes close to NOC, learning the finer points of nature photography as well as helpful tips to fully utilize the tools of today’s digital cameras.

Fall Break: Guest Appreciation Festival

Score a break from the outdoor education and visit NOC September 24–26 for the

“Grandaddy of Gear Sales”, the annual Guest Appreciation Festival. In addition to the traditional used gear sale, gear flea market and store sidewalk sale, this year’s event schedule is quickly filling up with features like a Hometown Throwdown freestyle competition, the ShredReady River Wakeboard Spectacular and more. Live music from Asheville bands The Secret B-Sides, The Trainwreks and Jen and the Juice keep the fun going throughout the weekend.

Free admission and parking all weekend.
