Rumors are flying over at Gannett Blog that another round of lay-offs is coming either mid month or early February for Gannett Co.’s newspapers, which includes the Asheville Citizen-Times. Other rumors posted by anonymous commenters:

– All Gannett employees will be required to take one week of unpaid leave between now and April.

– All features at Gannett newspapers will be eliminated in February. (I have no idea what this means exactly – feature stories? feature departments?)

So, what have you heard?

I really feel for you all living under this dark cloud. Each day something more depressing than the day before…thinking it couldn’t get worse and it always does.

Suggestion to anyone at AC-T: Take ALL your personal hours as soon as possible instead of using vacation days. Save those for last. If you get laid off, you do not get personal hours in addition to sick days.

Looks like January 20th has been popping up on the radar as a date for layoffs or a date to announce them.

They are also talking that as much as 12% will have to be let go. It seems to coincide with the inauguration for some reason. Maybe to hide the news of layoffs within the lines of the inauguration news.
