ASHEVILLE — A city bank filed suit against former NFL player and television commentator Warren Sapp, alleging he has defaulted on a $990,000 loan.

In the lawsuit, HomeTrust Bank states Sapp took out the loan in September 2007 for property in a Haywood County development called Horseshoe Forest Preserve. But he stopped making payments in February of this year and owes almost a million dollars, counting interest and late charges, according to the suit, filed Sept. 22 in Buncombe County Superior Court.

Sapp made several trips to North Carolina to market the development, and he is also a member of SS Mountain II LLC, which owns and sells land in the development, the lawsuit alleges.
