Former Buncombe County Commissioner David Young has launched a new business, Young & Associates, an executive search firm aimed at helping out local governments. Young plans to use his background as a 16-year public servant and his extensive connections to make a few bucks.

Young is the former president of the N.C. Association of County Commissioners and a current member of the UNC Board of Governors. His wife, Leigh Young, worked as an intern in former Gov. Jim Hunt’s administration and has been a strong advocate on children’s and women’s issues.

If anyone can pull it off a new venture, Young can, but he’s facing a tough road ahead with the national economy in recession. Local governments across the state, and the country, are slashing budgets as they face serious downturns in revenues from sales tax and such.
