Press release here:

Faces of Asheville: A Community Photo Documentary will exhibit at Glen Rock Depot at 372 Depot St. Saturday June 11, and Sunday, June 12, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. during the River Arts District Studio Stroll.  The exhibit will be open during Saturday afternoons in June thereafter. Admission and parking are free.

First exhibited in 2009, Faces of Asheville includes the creative portraits of nearly 350 Ashevillians. The exhibit presents the process of the project, including historical data collected through the documentary process, as well as the original portraits. The combination of individual images displayed together in a large format arena gives viewers an impressive window to look into Asheville’s community during this age.

“I’m excited to exhibit Faces of Asheville in the building that I also call home,” said photographer Jen Bowen.  “The Glen Rock Depot is a wonderful addition to this community and provides a place for Ashevillians to build a diverse, affordable, accessible home in the city.”

In 2007, when Bowen first started Faces of Asheville, the project was destroyed when her studio was robbed. With assistance from local organizations Arts2People and the Asheville Area Arts Council, the project was re-initiated in 2008 with a subleased studio in the River Arts District.   The portraits include a diverse and interesting survey of citizens of Asheville; including: homeless veterans, local politicians, community elders, musicians, families, artists, community builders, and more.
