It looks like Ashvegas is running at about 99 percent correct when it comes to our Election 2006 predictions. Scroll down a little and you’ll see them, but we’ll recap. We also know that election results are still unofficial, so things might change.

The one race that we missed only slightly was the Democratic primary for Buncombe County sheriff. We said there was a good possibility of a run-off with Van Duncan, J.B. Howard and Lee Farnsworth looking strong, and we picked Van Duncan. Well, there will be a run-off, but it will be between Duncan and former Ashvegas Police Department officer Walt Robertson. We’re sticking with the Duncan pick.

As expected, U.S. Rep. Charles Taylor and Heath Shuler won their respective primaries, which we picked. It’s impossible to get any clues as to the future of this race from Tuesday’s primary because the turnout was so dang low. Just look at this to be one hell of an expensive, entertaining contest.

In the state House District 116 primaries, we picked Dem Doug Jones and Repub Charles Thomas, and both were leading with unofficial results.

In the state House District 115 Repub primary, we picked Eric Gorny and he was leading last time we checked.

In Senate District 49, R.L. Clark, whom we picked, easily defeated his challenger.

Overall, Ashvegas gets an A- for this year’s primary picks.
