Sounds like just another layer of government red tape, but then again, what do I know?

Press release:

ASHEVILLE – Community members have proposed a new commission to support the continued development and sustainability of Asheville’s riverfront.  The proposed Asheville Riverfront Redevelopment Commission will provide policy recommendations to Asheville City Council and the Buncombe County Board of Commissioners.  A public meeting to discuss the organization of the proposed commission will be held Oct. 21 at 5:30 p.m. in the first floor conference room of Asheville City Hall.  Public comment will be received at the meeting.

In addition to reinvigorating the implementation of the Wilma Dykeman Riverway Master Plan, the proposed commission would support effective management of public resources for the riverfront and assist in the pursuit of private sector investment.  The proposed commission would also support cooperation and collaboration between property owners, merchants, residents, businesses, tenants, institutions and other members of the riverfront community.

For more information on the public meeting scheduled for October 21 or to learn more about the proposed Asheville Riverfront Redevelopment Commission, contact Stephanie Monson at [email protected] or 828-232-4502.

Anyone who’s paid attention can tell you Riverlink is doing a terrific job of that already. Sounds like a waste of time at best and counter-productive proposition at worst.

There’s a host of non profits that try to do all the work stated above, why do we need to use Gov’t funds to do something the non profits try to take care of?
