Dedication of UNC Asheville’s Sherrill Center set for April 18

Lots of movers and shakers will be out for this: 

WHAT: Wilma M. Sherrill Center Dedication Ceremony/ First chance for news media tours of the new facility.

WHO: UNC Asheville Chancellor Anne Ponder, U.S. Rep. Heath Shuler, N.C. State Health Director Jeffrey Engle, MD, former N.C. Rep. Wilma Sherrill, and elected officials and community leaders

WHERE: The new Wilma M. Sherrill Center, adjacent to the Justice Center at UNC Asheville

WHEN: 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 18, 2011/ 35-minute dedication ceremony will be followed by facility tours.

The Wilma M. Sherrill Center is home of the N.C. Center for Health & Wellness and the Kimmel Arena. The 133,500-square-foot facility houses classrooms, labs, fitness rooms, a wellness cafe and demonstration kitchen. Funding for the Center came from a $35-million appropriation from the N.C. General Assembly and $6 million in private funds.

LOGISTICS:  Reserved parking will be available in the three upper parking lots directly across from Zageir Hall, which is adjacent to the Center. Look for signage when you arrive on campus. For driving directions and a campus map, visit www.unca.edu/maps.
