A poster who signed themselves Darcel’s son writes Ashvegas to inform us that we won’t have to wait until November for more sweeps sensationalism from our local infotainment folks – there’s a sweeps period coming up in July.

Darcel’s son also gives us other important information – Darcel has a weave, not a wig. A while back, Ashvegas made a sideline comment about getting tired of seeing Darcel with the same one or two ‘dos, and suggested she invest in some new wigs. Thanks for correcting us.

Diva Darcel is untouchable. Was it a year or two ago that the station celebrated 25 years of Diva Darcel? Many a male co-anchor has come and gone during Darcel’s tenure. Darcel is a constant at a station where too many reporters and anchors have come and gone. Her institutional knowledge is invaluable (although the way she pronounces certain words does get on our last nerve. For example, “harricane” for “hurricane.” Where did that come from? Is that the way they talked in Baltimore growing up?)

Anyway, one last note of thanks to Darcel’s son, who takes the WLOS ribbings with a healthy dose of good-naturedness. While we do have (sometimes) harsh criticisms of the local TV folks who come into our living rooms each day, our point is to urge the TV news on to greater heights of journalistic integrity. Ashvegas has known and loved (even respected) a number of the local TV folks through the years.

So for the rest of you who think we’re just haters here, I’ve got two words: piss off.
