lauren_cox_2014Lauren Cox of Asheville is planning a bicycle ride that will benefit the Mountain Area Health Education Center and its work on women’s health issues. Cox is raising money for her trip with a workout on Saturday hosted by Crossfit Asheville. The event goes from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and costs $20. Here’s the workout:

Workout Description:
Complete 2 Rounds for Reps of:

1 minute of Power cleans (Rx), Med ball to shoulder alt sides (scaled)
1 minute rest
1 minute Airdyne for cals
1 minute rest
1 minute Burpees
1 minute rest
1 minute Row for cals
1 minute rest
1 Minute Box jumps/step overs (scaled)
1 minute rest

More from Lauren on why she’s doing this:

As a 2013 Summer Intern at MAHEC, Lauren helped with the Women’s and Children’s Safety Initiative and was hooked on helping women in WNC.

MAHEC provides quality, compassionate healthcare and their Women’s Team delivered 1,676 babies last year, which is 44% of the babies born at Mission Hospital. MAHEC doctors, nurses and nurse midwives see first hand the impact of domestic violence on women, particularly during pregnancy.

Buncombe County had the 4th highest rate of homicides due to domestic violence in NC in 2011 and 6.7% of children in the county are affected.

Funds raised from Lauren’s Ride will support the MAHEC Women’s Health Fund, to protect the health and safety of mothers and their babies. Our goal is to add an Impact Fellow committed to the Women’s and Children’s Safety Initiative.

Over 40 community stakeholders in this Initiative are committed to reducing violence against women.
