The Cars? Seriously? Moogfest was spectacular last year, amazing line ups- but this year I took a gamble for the weekend pass and so far I'm seeing a lot of mediocre ambient, jam, and bring 'em out of retirement bands. Not bands or musicians who pioneered in new genres of electronica. Y'know, you could theoretically see the Flaming Lips (do like 'em) anywhere, but Moogfest was billed to be a unique festival promoting artists who broke the molds of electronic music. Not just big names who are on tour anyway or are dusting off their Korgs to pay convalescent expenses. Yes, there are some on board this year, but the line ups so far are something I'd expect to see at a broad "make the general public happy" venue like Bele Chere… not the pioneers who owe their creativity and careers to Bob Moog.
I am proud to say I, and only I..was the first person to play the 'Cahs' (get it ?) in Asheville in Sept '78. Returning to UNCA after summer home in Mass, I brought The Cars record with me & played on my show at 'ol WUNF..2 wks later the Cahs were nationwide..!! ..and that's all I Got to say about that..thanks for listenin' ..!!
If DEVO could almost play at it, I don't see why The Cars could not also come close to playing there as well.
Not sure where these "lots of folks" are. This is the first I've heard of this. No mention whatsoever on the Moogfest FB page.
That said, I would love to see The Cars. Great band. Only time I've ever heard one of their songs played live was Ween in 2000 at Be Here Now. They played part of Just What I Needed and it was awesome.
