The low-profile but high-impact Echo Mountain Studios is a downtown recording studio that’s Asheville’s connection to some serious players in the music industry. As well as the recent making of records from the three bands above, it’s also hosted Daytrotter, Ben Sollee, T-Bone Burnett, Dawes, G. Love, Justin Townes Earle, Steve Martin, Band of Horses and more.
Asheville band Steep Canyon Rangers is nominated for its record Nobody Knows You as Best Bluegrass Album. The band won a Grammy in 2012 for Rare Bird Alert, recorded with frequent collaborator Steve Martin (yes, THAT Steve Martin), a part-time WNC resident with a home in Brevard.
The Zac Brown Band’s release Uncaged is nominated for Best Country Album.
You can actually get a good look at the interior of Echo Mountain in this Zac Brown band video for “The Wind,” a single from its Grammy-nominated record.
Congratulations also to Steve, Jessica and everyone at Echo Mountain for bringing a little piece of Nashville to Asheville and enticing great bands to record here, as well as providing an affordable professional recording space for the musicians of the local scene.
Well done, all, and here’s to many more Grammy nominations for local bands and records recorded here in Asheville.
The Grammys are February 10. Asheville, you know who to root for.
