The Asheville Citizen-Times today announces that its news team won three awards in the N.C. Press Association’s annual newspaper competition. But if you go online to leave a comment congratulating the winners at the newspaper’s Web site, you’re shut out.

You can comment on a story about the suicide of Brent Bigger, or a story about dairy farmers’ dismal future, or how a science program gets kids fired up about learning, or even on a three-paragraph entry about the weather.

But you can’t comment on a story about the Citizen-Times.

Interesting.

It is good to hear the competition between the newspapers. I thought the competition might be quite tough. The story is given in the blog is also given an idea to demonstrate people.

It’s called the "Hammer Lock"…. Publisher Randy Hammer is scared sh–less and is running for cover on this and many other issues associated with the local paper.

It will be interesting to see how they handle the full merger with the Greenville News.

Phil Fernandez has been totally ineffective as editor and also seems to be constantly in hiding.

Sounds like the publisher called the shots on that one.
