Charlotte Observer: Asheville fave Tupelo Honey to open there

The Charlotte Observer reports on Tupelo Honey’s latest expansion plans:

One of Asheville’s most popular restaurants will open a location in Charlotte.

Tupelo Honey Cafe is preparing to renovate the old Pewter Rose Bistro, according to Mecklenburg County building permits. Elizabeth Sims, the restaurant’s marketing manager, said no opening date had been set, since it’s so early in the permiting process. The space was empty, and there was no sign of any renovations Wednesday morning.

Last month, proprietor Steve Frabitore told NBC Charlotte said he intended to open a restaurant here. “We have a tremendous fan base in Charlotte and a lot of interest,” he said. “I fully expect to be there in the near future.”

Tupelo Honey hasn’t been shy about its expansion plans of late. Last year, the company opened a location in Knoxville. There are new locations coming to Chattanooga, Johnson City and Greenville, S.C.,
