I’m hearing some buzz from a few folks about a big estate sale at a true Asheville instution, Penland Auctions down on Craven Street off River Road. If you’ve never been to Penland Auctions, you need to go some time and just watch. It’s held in a dreary little building crammed full of all kinds of cool stuff. Tommy Tuten and Johnny Penland have been holding auctions and estate sales there for years. I don’t know the background, but I’m going to find out. It’s one cool hang.

Here’s some of what’s on sale on Friday starting at 6 p.m. You can preview the items from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday and 9 a.m. up until when the auction starts on Friday. Go to the auction website for more info.

I love Penland Auctions. The auctioneers there bring a bluegrass gospel cadence that’ll have you tapping your toes and swinging your bid card. Careful!

It’s every Friday night. You can go ahead of time to view everything. On auction night, if you’d like a piece moved up in the queue, you can normally just ask one of the workers to do so.
