Buncombe County plans to expand its construction and demolition landfill. According to the county:

In general, the proposed facility expansion increases the C&D landfill to the northeast and west of the existing landfill area. This modification adheres to all permitting boundary buffers and does not change the tonnage rate or the characteristics of the waste stream.

There’s a public hearing on March 31 at 7 p.m. at 199 College Street, in the Buncombe County Training Room. Anyone present can make statements or present written comments to landfill manager Jerry Mears. There will be a fact sheet for public review.

    Sigh.

When I lived in Vermont, going to the "dump" was a great morning out.

Upon presenting the bag, it was checked. then sent down a gauntlet of folks. Each pulled out what they wanted or could use, then it ended up at the end. Most of the time there wasn’t much to toss.

It was managed very well. Something that could never happen here.

    Pity.
