parking_meter1Mark Barrett of the Asheville Citizen-Times reports that the city of Asheville is looking at raising a number of fees, from water rates to parking fees. On the parking fees:

The increase in the cost of using a metered parking space on city streets is the first since 2003.

Metered rates would go from $1 to $1.25 an hour, while rates in most city parking garages will increase from 75 cents an hour to $1, with the first hour free.

Proceeds would go to to cover renovations of the city’s three older parking garages in a few years, city officials say.

Anybody know why the city doesn’t charge for parking in Biltmore Park? Why do they get a pass?
