The largest residential project in the history of Asheville’s River Arts District is scheduled to begin construction in March, a city planner confirms.
The RADLofts project, which developer Harry Pilos announced about five years ago, has been delayed by financing issues. That’s apparently been all worked out. City planner Stephanie Monson Dahl to the Asheville Riverfront Redevelopment Commission last week that the project is a go, and that it will get underway in March.
The high density mixed-use development will bring 225 apartments and other commercial space to a lot on Roberts Street known as the old Dave Steel property. The parcel is a triangular-shaped vacant lot that sits across from Ultra Coffee at the intersection of Clingman, Roberts, Lyman and Depot streets.
The River Arts District has been undergoing a major transformation for the past handful of years as more and more development has moved to the area. That transformation is taking a big leap forward with a multi-million dollar infrastructure project is remaking a portion of Riverside Drive to include roundabouts, bike lanes, greenways and more.
The biggest residential project for the River Arts District so far was approved just last fall. It’s called Stoneyard Apartments. The mixed-use project at 175 Lyman St. (at a former stone yard) will include 133 apartments, a restaurant and artist studios.
There are so many reasons to love the RAD! Hopefully this project will allow new residents to enjoy the things that have made it great.
