Lauren_Cox_2013 My friend Lauren Cox, who I know through the awesome Crossfit Asheville community, is doing something awesome, and you can support her this afternoon. Here’s the quick note she sent me recently:

Wicked Weed is allowing us to hold our MAHEC fundraiser kick off event on November 10th 12-2.  This fundraiser is also working with Mission, Pisgah Legal, Our Voice, Helpmate and other local groups in town to raise money and awareness for domestic and sexual violence with our women and children in Asheville. Wicked Weed will provide food and beer and we will have a raffle. Tickets cost $30. We will be raffling off a bike, a weekend in Charleston in a great hotel, a $500 spa package to Cadence’s Contouring, and a lot of other great things.

Lauren_Cox_2Very cool. Here is the Lauren Cox Ride for MAHEC page on razoo. More:

As a 2013 Summer Intern at MAHEC, Lauren helped with the Women’s and Children’s Safety Initiative and was hooked on helping women in WNC.

MAHEC provides quality, compassionate healthcare and their Women’s Team delivered 1,676 babies last year, which is 44% of the babies born at Mission Hospital. MAHEC doctors, nurses and nurse midwives see first hand the impact of domestic violence on women, particularly during pregnancy.

Buncombe County had the 4th highest rate of homicides due to domestic violence in NC in 2011 and 6.7% of children in the county are affected.

Funds raised from Lauren’s Ride will support the MAHEC Women’s Health Fund, to protect the health and safety of mothers and their babies. Our goal is to add an Impact Fellow committed to the Women’s and Children’s Safety Initiative.

Over 40 community stakeholders in this Initiative are committed to reducing violence against women.
