Mmmmm. Just in time for fall.

New Green Man brew Maceo is a “super-limited” imperial brown ale aged for nine months, the last three of which are spent in a rum barrel full of “sweet Oregon cherries.” $20 for a growler, and they are going FAST. Someone please tell us what a magic barrel is. From Green Man:

The Green Man Brewers are very proud to announce our 3rd (ever) bottle release… Say hello to ‘Maceo’. Pucker up for this American Sour Dark Ale aged in our ‘Magic’ barrel with Cherries. On sale today at our brewery and select WNC retailers…This release is highly limited and will go fast.

From the Citizen-Times “Beer Guy,” Tony Kiss:

Had a glass of Green Man’s new sour cherry high alcohol beere called Maceo this afternoon. This is arguably the best beer ever made by an Asheville brewery, or one of them. It’s going fast at $20 a bottle. And worth every penny. Cheers to Mike Karnowski for putting this one together. Next up is a sour peach, a berliner weisse and a farmhouse ale made with squash!

Cosmic coincidence? The man who’s got to be behind the brew’s funky name, N.C.-born sax genius Maceo Parker, plays Pisgah Brewing tonight (Friday). From Mountain Xpress, Parker is a Smart Bet:

If anyone can make us forget the saxophone overload of the ’80s and remind us of the instrument’s soulful best qualities, it’s got to be Maceo Parker. The N.C.-born musician and bandleader is renowned for his work with both James Brown and Parliament Funkadelic. He’s also played with De La Soul, Prince, Jane’s Addiction and Dave Matthews Band — all while releasing 16 or his own albums over 40-plus years. His Soul Classics came out just last month. Parker and his Funk Orchestra make a stop at Pisgah Brewing’s outdoor stage on Friday, Oct. 5. Showtime is 7:30 p.m. The Funk Ark opens and plays late-night. Tickets are $25 in advance or $30 day of show. Hopster VIP passes are $50. http://pisgahbrewing.com.
