Ashvegas loyal readers deliver the news once again: A new restaurant called Solace will replace the former Flying Frog at the corner of Battery Park Avenue and Haywood Street, one of the hottest corners in downtown Asheville.

Ashvegas commenters report: that the space is do for a complete renovation; the concept may be tapas; that there are already ads on Craigslist asking for job applicants; and that Chef Bryan Kimmett, of the well-known luxury Waynesville bed-and-breakfast called The Swag, will be leading the kitchen. This is all unconfirmed right now, of course. The Craigslist ad says Solace is slated to open May 1 and will serve American food.

That’s exciting news. We’ll keep an eye on developments. Thanks to Ashvegas readers for the tips and info.

Meantime, here’s a 2009 review of The Swag restaurant by WNC Magazine.

Not sure I want to go to a restaurant called Solace:

"Comfort or consolation in a time of distress or sadness"
"comfort in sorrow, misfortune, or trouble"

    Makes me think of Hospice.

Perhaps as unfortunate a name for a restaurant as the late "Bearly Edible."
