Here’s the news, from loyal reader Russa:

Southwest Airlines will begin service into GSP (Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport) and Charleston (Charleston International Airport), SC late this year or early next year. This is great news for the frugal minded traveler. I love this airline as a Texas expatriate and have been flying it since I was approximately 18 months old and I’m 33 now. Very exciting news…

Thanks for the info, Russa. Press release here.

This is GREAT news for air travelers in Asheville, WNC and the Upstate.

The Asheville airport is always way too expensive and offers very few flights. GSP always had better fares and I’ll bet they get even cheaper with the arrival of Southwest.
