Here’s more of what’s going around…

-A new tour company called Tuk It Tour Co. will soon be hitting the streets of Asheville. The company’s electric vehicles can seat six passengers are designed to resemble a tuk tuk, or auto rickshaw.

-Construction is underway on the new Tunnel Road retail center called The Peaks. It’s located across from the Asheville Mall on property that was once home to Beaucatcher Cinemas. A new Chipolte Mexican Grill, Panera Bread, Rise Biscuits & Donuts and Sleep Number will open first at the shopping center alongside the Men’s Wearhouse, which has been there for years and will remain. All together, The Peaks offers 12 restaurant and retail spaces.

-Bhramari Brewing is planning to build a two-story addition onto its South Slope brewery in downtown Asheville to house a canning operation.

-A new hotel project at the corner of Biltmore Avenue and White Fawn Drive in downtown #Asheville is titled the “Extended Stay at Hospital Center.” More details and renderings to come

-Morgan’s Comics is the new name of the former Haywood Comics on Haywood Road in West Asheville, the result of an apparent ownership change. Morgan’s Comics bills itself as the first female-owned comic shop in Western North Carolina. (Follow @morganscomicssanctuary on Instagram.)

-Asheville taxpayers will foot the bill for expanded city bus system service and other improvements, to the tune of about $13 million over the next 10 years, following Asheville City Council’s recent action to approve a new transit master plan.

-Also, the city of Asheville is in the market for 8 to 10 acres of land to be home to a new bus system maintenance center. A city consultant says the center could cost $50 million, some of which might be offset by federal grant money.

-The Chihuly glass exhibition at the Biltmore Estate wraps up on Oct. 7, but look for some extended hours to be announced soon before it closes. There’s talk that some of the Chihuly glass art pieces may remain at Biltmore Estate once the exhibition closes, according to Paula Wilber, VP of sales at Biltmore.

-The success of the Chihuly glass exhibition at Biltmore Estate has Asheville tourism officials considering making the “Summer of Glass” marketing campaign associated with the exhibition this year an annual effort.

-In case you missed it, here’s the list of winners of the 2018 Battle of the Burger, staged by All American Food Fights and the Salvage Station: Sand Hill Kitchen won first place; Rankin Vault won second place, as well as the People’s Choice Award; and AUX Bar won third place.
