Ashvegas: The City You Love. The News You Want.Some of what’s going around:

-Zagat lists the “8 Hottest Restaurants and Bars in Asheville.”

-Protestesters confronted Asheville artist Jonas Gerard over the weekend, the fall date for the twice-a-year River Arts District Studio Stroll. Gerard faces a misdemeanor charge of sexual battery, according to Asheville Blade reporter David Forbes.

-The Roanoke Times continues its barrage of editorials showering love on , which is looking at various locations, including Roanoke and Asheville, to open its East Coast brewery. The latest Roanoke Times editorial takes not of the Ashvegas opinion that Roanoke is winning the public relations push for the brewery.

-Comedian and writer Sara Benincasa, a 2005 Warren Wilson College creative writing alumna, will be at the Asheville campus on Nov. 23  for a public reading, talk and Q&A session. From a press release:

Her debut book, the soul-baring “Agorafabulous! Dispatches From My Bedroom,” is a critically acclaimed hit, and her most recent writing project, “D.C. Trip,” has been optioned for a movie. The event is free, open to the public and scheduled for 7 p.m. in the Cole Room of the campus’ Pew Learning Center and Ellison Library.

Since leaving the Swannanoa Valley, Benincasa has served as a citizen journalist for MTV, hosted a radio show on SiriusXM and appeared on countless television shows, including NBC’s Today Show, the CBS Early Show and CNN’s Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer. Her work has been praised by the likes of Cosmopolitan magazine, Newsweek, LA Weekly and Vogue Italia with Time magazine calling her “adorably…hilarious.” She also recently completed a crowd-funded short film, “The Focus Group,” due out later this year.

-Lindt Chocolate Shop is opening Nov. 20 at Asheville Outlets. “The new chocolate shop will feature chocolate drinks; a chocolate dipping station where customers can purchase freshly dipped strawberries; and, a wide variety of Lindt customer favorites,” according to a press release.

-Biltmore Village will host its Old-Fashioned Dickens in the Village on Friday and Saturday with a tree lighting, roving carolers and more.

-The Town of Black Mountain is celebrating the holidays with several events. From a press release:

The festivities begin with Shop Small Saturday on Saturday, November 28 including a tree-lighting ceremony at 6 p.m. on the Town Square.

The Monte Vista Hotel features 30 beautifully decorated trees with “Deck the Trees,” December 3-31. Voting proceeds will go to the Swannanoa Valley Christian Ministry.

The Annual Holly Jolly celebration takes place Friday, December 4, 5-8 p.m. in historic downtown Black Mountain. Santa will be at the Old Depot, and entertainers and music will be at the Little Red Caboose. Shops will be open with refreshments available.

Joy to the World is the theme for this year’s Christmas parade, Saturday, December 5 at 4 p.m. The parade begins on Flat Creek and travels through town to Craigmont Road. Retired Owen High School football coach Kenny Ford and his wife Sharon have been named Grand Marshals of the parade. The Chamber encourages any former player to wear their Owen jerseys and march along with Kenny.
