Here’s your Wednesday edition:

-Top story: It rained a lot yesterday. A lot. Asheville got more than 4 inches.

-Christmas Jam update: The Drive By Truckers have cancelled their Christmas Jam appearance because a band member is sick. Damn.

-MountainBizWorks open house: The nonprofit that supports entrepreneurs is holding an open house and holiday bazaar on Friday starting at 4 p.m. Good networking. Great nonprofit to support.

-Just Economics celebration: Just Economics is holding its annual membership celebration starting at 5 p.m. Thursday in the Phil Mechanics Studio. The event includes art, music and a silent auction.

-Hemp House: Asheville’s hemp house, featured on Gizmodo. Cool.

-Cinebarre deals: A few months back, Cinebarre movie theater at the Biltmore Square Mall announced that it was going the second-run movie route, and would charge $3 for movies – the same price as Asheville Pizza & Brewing.

But the deals don’t stop there. The last few weeks, I’ve noticed that Cinebarre is offering $1 movies on Sundays. And on Tuesdays, if you buy a drink, you get a free pizza. Wow. Those guys are really trying to get people into the theater.

-Honoring Leslie Nielsen: Speaking of Asheville Pizza & Brewing, the brew-and-view will be showing the movie Airplane at 10 p.m. on Thursday to honor actor Leslie Nielsen, who just passed away. There will be a big sympathy card for people to sign, and APB says it will send the card to Nielsen’s family.

-Reddon catering: Chef John Reddon, formerly of Southside Cafe, is now catering. The popular cafe closed earlier this year.

-Harris Teeter coming to North Asheville?: There have been pretty consistent rumors over the past couple of years that Harris Teeter grocery store was planning to open a store on Merrimon Avenue. Most recently, folks have been saying the location could be just north of Greenlife Grocery in the former Deal Motors site. A loyal Ashvegas reader says she’s been contacted by market research group southersolutionstn to participate in a Harris Teeter focus group. Interesting.

-Lab found: From loyal Ashvegas reader Andrew:

I found a very sweet old female yellow lab on Hillside St. in North Asheville.  I took her to the Humane Society on Brevard Rd and is waiting for her owner there.  If you would please post this in hopes that the owner or a friend of the owner will see it.

-Green Drinks on the move: Here’s the announcement –

Asheville Green Drinks is part of a self-organizing global grassroots movement in the form of a social drinking/networking event that connects communities with discussions around sustainability, the environment, social justice, media and action. We meet weekly, frequently with a speaker/panel, to discuss pressing green issues and enjoy a organic beverage or two. We have changed our regular meeting to Wednesdays @ 5:00-7:00 pm Craggie Brewing Company 197 Hilliard Avenue Asheville, NC 28801

How is it going to be possible to add a turn lane on Merrimon!?

Cinnebar has to resort to drastic measures… the terrible location, poor service, mediocre food, sky-high ticket prices, and watered-down drinks approach must not have been working for them.

    Ash,

The design for the Harris Teeter came through the Planning and Economic Development Committee. It's on. They will preserve the old wall, add a traffic light and turn lane, and add a bus stop.
