Here’s more of what’s going around, including…

-Bear alert: In a June 5 email, Warren Wilson College’s campus security warned students and staff of “an unusually large amount of bears on campus at night right now.” The Warren Wilson College campus security folks reported last week that there are three or four different mama bears and their cubs “using our campus as their own personal buffet. On any given night, campus security officers have been encountering 6 to 10 different bears, in different locations, at the same time, according to the alert. Warren Wilson College security officers are instructing folks on campus to not leave food and garbage out overnight, and to walk away slowly if they encounter a bear.

-Body-worn cameras are coming to the security personnel at the Asheville Regional Airport following the airport authority’s approval of a new policy last week.

-Parking garage rates at the Asheville Regional Airport are going down. The airport authority approved dropping the garage rates from $13 a day to $12 a day; folks who park in the deck for a week get the 7th day free.

-Cinnabon Cafe sticky buns and Auntie Anne’s butter-soaked pretzels are coming to the Asheville Regional Airport following approval of changes to a concession agreement approved last week.

-Two major Asheville thoroughfares will be getting upgrades to make them more pedestrian-friendly. Planning has begun to remake South Lexington Avenue and Coxe Avenue. Public input session set for June 21.

-Duke Energy is moving forward with plans to build a gas-insulated electrical substation in downtown Asheville at the corner of Patton and Clingman avenues; a demolition permit has been requested to tear down the old car dealership building there now.

-The developer of proposed Parisian boutique hotel on Patton Ave in downtown Asheville has a proposal to build a new parking deck nearby that would serve the hotel; the deck, proposed for corner of Buncombe and Aston streets, would have 15 or so lodging units atop it.

-The developer of planned new condos on Biltmore Avenue in downtown #Asheville is also planning to build a new “family lodge” nearby; three other historic buildings in that stretch will also be used for short-term rentals.

    This needs more detail:

“-The developer of planned new condos on Biltmore Avenue in downtown #Asheville is also planning to build a new “family lodge” nearby; three other historic buildings in that stretch will also be used for short-term rentals.”

What condos — that art deco-ish thing that wasn’t meant for anyone to actually live in? The one that’s basically a glorified hotel?

What family lodge? Where will it be and what is it supposed to look like? Are we basically saying here that it’s another new hotel for downtown?

What three historic buildings? What businesses will be given the boot to make way for more hotel rooms?

How could someone find out more information?
