Here’s more of what’s going around, including an upcoming fundraising event for Asheville FM. Here we go:

103.3 Asheville FM is celebrating nine years of community radio in conjunction with Asheville Affiliates, who will host a benefit from 6-9 p.m. on Sept. 13 at Ambrose West on Haywood Road in West Asheville. The event includes Asheville FM’s own – DJ Kutzu and DJ Devyn Marzoula, with headliner April B & The Cool, as well as food, beer and more. Tickets are $25 in advance or $30 at the door.

-The city of Asheville recently issued notices of violation to four organizations operating along Haywood Road in West Asheville after receiving complaints centered around health and public safety concerns. The following were notified: Firestorm Books, Kairos West, The Steady Collective and 12 Baskets (Asheville Poverty Initiative), as well as the property owners. City staffers have been working with the organizations to become compliant with city regulations.

-The Stump Mutts will play a free concert at The Salvage Station on Sunday, Sept. 2, to celebrate the release of The Stump Mutts Pineapple Session IPA, made by Asheville Brewing. Check ’em.

-The plēb urban winery will hold its grand opening celebration from noon until 10 p.m. on Saturday at its new location at 289 Lyman Street. The event will include Poetry on Demand with Eddie Cabbage; Spoon and Hook wares for sale courtesy of Anneliesse Gormley; an art tour with mural artist Ian Wilkinson, a food truck and hot dog cart courtesy of Miss P’s Cateringz & Delicious Dogz, live music by Lyric and more.

-Here’s a quick construction update on Momentum Gallery’s new Broadway location in downtown Asheville.

-Food historian Michael Twitty, a blogger who approaches his topic as a gay, Jewish black man, will tell his story during the Carolina Mountains Literary Festival in Burnsville on Sept. 7 and will be a part of the “One Southern Family” UNC Asheville farm-to-table Dinner on the Quad on Sept. 4. Twitty will also give a lecture at 7 p.m. on Sept. 6. at UNCA’s Lipinsky Auditorium.

-Sawhorse, a new restaurant featuring French, Canadian and “northern-inspired comfort food,” is still moving toward a late fall opening on Leicester Highway, in the former Leicester Family Restaurant.

-The Toybrary of Asheville is pretty cool. With a cool van, the Toybrary of Asheville “will provide underserved families with limited economic resources to access our toys,” according to its website.

-Speaking of food trucks, my favorite new food truck on the scene is Sweet Cheesus and specializes in raclette. Follow them @sweetcheesus_usa.

-The Asheville Coworking Crawl is set for Sept. 6.

-Bryson City-based Nantahala Brewing is preparing to open its new West Asheville taproom on Haywood Road, in the former location of Anchor Bar.

-The Heavy Mountain Music & Beer Festival, which features heavy metal music, is set for Saturday and Sunday at The Orange Peel in downtown Asheville and The Mothlight in West Asheville.

-LAAF, the Living Asheville Arts Festival, is set once again for Sunday on Lexington Avenue in downtown Asheville. Look for tons of local music, local vendors and more at this annual fundraiser for the nonprofit Arts 2 People.

-Will Confederate flags show up in the Canton Labor Day Parade this year? It’s unclear, but one year after a display of Confederate flags in the Canton Labor Day Parade triggered criticism, there are no new regulations governing the issue, the Smoky Mountain News reports.
