Pedicab
Asheville’s new bicycle cabbies hit the streets last weekend. The business, dubbed “Your Chariot Awaits,” will try to make a go of pedaling tourists around town. Somebody tried this several years ago, and it didn’t last. We’ll see if these folks can make it work.

From the Citizen-Times:

The cabs will operate 9 a.m. to 3 a.m. seven days a week, not including rush hour 4-6 p.m. The cabs will run in downtown Asheville, the River Arts District and Historic Montford.

Drivers can charge a fare or operate on tips. Fares are set at $2.50 per person per one-way trip within one district, with an additional $1 for crossover into another district.

Passengers can call, e-mail or text message for a pedicab at 582-1842 or [email protected].
For more information, visit the company’s MySpace page at www.myspace.com/yourchariotawaitsllc.

As long as the gas prices keep rising, then we are here to stay. We are serving locals as well as tourists by providing them with economical and environmental man-powered transportation Downtown. Besides, its fun!

Yes, we are aware of a previous try on bringing rickshaws to Asheville about a decade ago, but equipment has come a long way since then. We have more time to dedicate to the pedicabs as well as to our customers. And, Asheville is more receptive to
    this style of venture now.
