Press release here. This is the city’s second homicide this year:

ASHEVILLE – At about 4:07am today, Asheville police were dispatched to Hillcrest Apartments in response to a shooting.

Responding officers found a male victim slumped over in the driver’s seat of a van that had struck the front porch of building 31.  The victim had an apparent gunshot wound to his abdomen and was pronounced dead by responding emergency medical personnel.

The victim is identified as Louis Andrew Fleming, date of birth, 03/19/60, of Asheville.
A female that was apparently seated in the passenger seat of the van was shot in the face and is currently being treated by Mission Hospitals.

The victims are not residents of Hillcrest and it is believed that they may have been participating in a drug deal at the time of the shooting.

The incident is currently under investigation by the Criminal Investigations Division.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the police department at 828-252-1110 or Asheville-Buncombe CrimeStoppers at 255-5050.

Further updates, as available, will be issued via media release or posted on the APD’s web page at www.ashevillenc.gov.
