The Asheville Music School’s annual benefit show, set for Thursday (May 2) at Isis Music Hall, will once again feature the performance of an album by The Beatles in its entirety. This year, it’s Revolver. Get your tickets here.
Here’s the press release:
At the seventh annual Sound Effects concert to benefit Asheville Music School on Thursday, May 2 from 6 – 10 PM at Isis Music Hall, Asheville musicians team up to perform The Beatles’ Revolver album in its entirety. Teaching artists at Asheville Music School, along with advanced students and special guests like Justin Ray (trumpeter in Michael Bublé’s band), form this all-star band to perform the album that many music critics and fans regard as The Beatles’ best, with songs like “Taxman,” “Eleanor Rigby,” and the groundbreaking “Tomorrow Never Knows.”
“The Beatles were getting less interested in performing live, and more interested in exploring the possibilities of using the recording studio as a musical instrument” says Sound Effects musical director Ryan Reardon.
“The album was released in 1966 at the height of Beatlemania, around the time of Lennon’s famous ‘more popular than Jesus’ quote.” Reardon says. “It’s exciting not only to recreate this innovative music in a live setting, but also to share these historic moments in music with our students.”
All proceeds from the event will benefit Asheville Music School’s operations, mission, and programs, particularly the school’s growing outreach and scholarship programs.
The May 2 event will also feature AMS Outreach ensembles, including AMS rock band Minør and pop band Vinyl Crossroads. Attendees will have the opportunity to bid on a variety of silent auction and raffle items donated by area businesses, including a Theremini by Moog Music.
Tickets to the event are $15 in advance and $18 at the door; $7 for children under 12; and free for ages 2 and younger. Advance tickets may be purchased on the Isis Music Hall website at isisasheville.com. Attendees are encouraged to enjoy fine dining at Isis prior to the show; a portion of dinner sales will be donated to AMS. Dinner reservations are recommended and may be made by calling Isis Music Hall at (828) 575-2737.
Sponsors of the 2019 benefit include Charlotte Street Computers, Salvage Station,
Strada Italiano, McKibbon Hospitality, WNC Magazine, Honeypot Vintage, Asheville Symphony, and more.
