From a segment that aired Thursday at 6:40 a.m.: Mom gives moonshine a classy makeover, the story behind Troy Ball and her small-batch, craft moonshine made in Asheville.

Troy and Sons is the brand for white whiskey produced by Asheville Distilling Company–a small-batch distillery making legal moonshine from an heirloom variety of North Carolina corn that dates back to the 1840s. According CBS This Morning, Troy Ball is one of only four women in the country who run a distillery.

“Running” moonshine has long been a tradition in western North Carolina. Lee Woodruff profiles one stay-at-home mom who devoted herself to turning the craft of making moonshine into an art.
