The Asheville Coffee Expo, an event created two years ago by Stu Helm and Angie Rainey returns on Saturday under new ownership. Abby Dickinson, who conducts event planning, marketing and public relations on the craft beer scene in Asheville, has taken over the event.

Here’s the breakdown:

The event will be held in the same location, along Ralph Street, which parallels Depot Street in the River Arts District. The event starts at 10 a.m. and goes all day.

Dickinson, who is the first to say that “I’m not the coffee expert,” simply states that she loves Asheville and its coffee scene and wants to see it grow. She says her passion is bringing attention to the city’s craft beverage scene in general, and coffee specifically with the expo.

This year’s event won’t feature any major changes. “It’s steady as it goes,” Dickinson says, noting that visitors will see the same array of coffee shops, bakeries, cafés and tea shops represented on the street.

What’s in store for the next iteration?

Dickinson says she’d like to grow the expo into a regional event to bring in event more roasters, coffee shops and baristas.

The take-aways: It’s a free, outdoor event come rain or shine, featuring a ton of great coffee, tea and sweet treats. There will be a couple of competitions, cuppings and more.
