Please join in celebration with the Asheville-Buncombe Food Policy Council for a holiday potluck, one-year anniversary celebration andMeeting of the Whole. It’s 6:30 – 9 pm on Sunday, December 2 at the Toy Boat Community Art Space. The Asheville-Buncombe Food Policy Council (ABFPC) is a volunteer organization that brings together the many individuals and groups concerned with food security in Western North Carolina. It serves as a forum for discussing food issues while facilitating communication between sectors in the food system. Since the first meeting one year ago, more than 350 community members have engaged with the Food Policy Council.
Over the past year, the Council has been identifying and proposing innovative solutions to spur local economic development and create environmentally-sustainable and socially-just food systems. They are initiating a process to lease city-owned land for agricultural uses.Plus, they are changing rules to allow Farmers’ markets in residentially-zoned areas in Asheville – where three new markets have emerged!
Bring a friend and a dish for an informal potluck celebration December 2, with big, exciting announcements about the A/B FPC/City of Asheville Food Action Plan and steps towards policy solutions with Buncombe County. This is a great chance to meet with Council members and become a part of this critical effort.
